The waist is defined as the area between the rib cage and the pelvis. It is an area that is unique in defining feminine beauty. Although trends come and go, the hourglass shape has always been desirable. Studies have shown that a waist/hip ratio of approximately 0.7 is universally deemed to be attractive in females. Many women have some fullness around the waist, especially after having children. This can often lead to a bunching up of some skin into folds at this level and just below the bra strap area
Liposuction/Liposculpture can dramatically improve the waist contour, reducing the waist measurement by several centimetres (5-7 would be average) as well as significantly decreasing and sometimes completely removing the rolls of skin beneath the bra strap.
When treating the waist, it is important not to ignore the lower back. There should be a continuous curve that extends from the concavity of the waist to the fullness of the buttocks.
